Dr. D.S. Bhadlikar
Dean, Dr. D.Y. Patil College of Ayurved and
Research Institute

The Sanskrit term Ayurveda is composed of ‘Ayus’ which means ‘Life’ and ‘Veda’ which means ‘Knowledge’ or ‘Science’. Ayurveda is thus the science of life, the knowledge about life. It systemizes and applies the knowledge about health and disease, i.e. of balanced and unbalanced states of living beings and how unbalanced states can be corrected and the restored balance maintained.

The Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved and Research Institute was established in the year 2004 with permissions from the Central Council of Indian Medicine (C.C.I.M) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India, to help in achieving the basic aim of Ayurveda; That of prolongation of a healthy life, prevention of diseases and thus, help for a person to attain the four principal aims of life: Dharma (Virtue), Artha (Wealth), Kama (Desires) and Moksha (Liberation). With Ayurveda slowly gaining global recognition, it is important that education in such a specialized field be imparted to students who wish to pursue it as a career.

At the Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Ayurved, the student is exposed to all the different aspects of this science. This is the only college for Ayurvedic medicine in Maharashtra that has English as the medium of instruction. Being part of a campus that also houses the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical and Dental Colleges ensures that the students get to interact with a wide spectrum of individuals from different areas of health sciences. Ayurvedic treatment, which originated in India, is now steadily gaining ground across the globe. The College aspires to produce outstanding doctors who can contribute to this ancient science at large.

We have a full fledged Ayurvedic Hospital with specialized departments of Anorectal Surgery (Ksharsutra), Preventive Medicine, (Diet and Yoga) with Medicine, ENT, Gynaecology and Paediatrics. Our Panchakarma Department is the best in the city with all necessary equipment, gadgets and trained personnel. We have four operation theatres - Major, Minor, Opthalmic and Labour - with live demonstration facility. Modern advance equipments and instruments are available. Students are offered practical training in various subjects right from the first year to bring out the best in them and develop them as specialized Ayurvedic Physicians.

“With the West embracing Yoga, it will not be long before the benefits of Ayurveda shall be known the world over. The Dr. D. Y. Patil College for Ayurved is amongst the first few colleges to impart Ayurvedic education in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The facilities that are made available to the student, coupled with the hospital on campus and the ever-supportive faculty make it a stimulating environment for learning.”
